Horse Country USA

Aubrey is situated on US 377 just north of Denton in the Cross Timbers region. The town was originally named Onega when the Texas and Pacific Railway built a section house there in 1881. By the 1980's, peanuts were the leading crop, with an average annual harvest of 3,000 tons processed in the local drying plant . The Peanut Festival is still celebrated the first Saturday of October, though peanuts have since given way to equines. The sandy loam soil, great for growing peanuts, is also great for training horses and has attracted many horsemen to the area making it "Horse Country USA."
